Jane
Grech’s passion for sewing began when she was a teenager growing up in Malta. She developed an interest in sewing and
learned tailoring, patternmaking as well as complex handwork such as lace making. In 1995, she moved to New York City and
attended the Fashion Institute of Technology where she studied patternmaking focusing on casual wear, outerwear, and constructing
patterns for either male or female attire. Jane began collaborating with Teri Jo Summer (Smith) over seven years ago, creating
patterns for several different styles of jackets and coats as well as sewing these garments. The garments she has sewn have
graced galleries worldwide and displayed at museum exhibitions. Also she works with Patch Inc. for whom she created patterns
for several different styles of hats and bags. Recently, Jane has added teaching to her repertoire. She teaches sewing to
children ages 6 to 11 at Fulmar Elementary School in Mahopac, NY, and gives private sewing lessons at her studio. She teaches
the basics of sewing and ‘how to reconstruct a pattern’ to adults at Coupeville Arts Center in Whidbey’s
Island, WA. Jane is an accomplished patternmaker and couture seamstress. She wishes to share her knowledge with the intention
of preserving the tradition of fine tailoring and sewing as art. Carter Smith and Teri Jo Summer each have much to thank Jane
for!
